New Continuous Hinge

We fix, install, repair, and maintain Storefront Windows & Doors.

Door Hinge Replacement

A new door hinge is a great way to update your home’s exterior and make it more energy efficient. It will also give you the ability to open and close your doors with ease, which can be very helpful if you have children or elderly relatives who need help getting in and out of their homes. A new door hinge is an easy project that you can do yourself, so there are no tools required. You’ll just need some time and patience.

Steps

  1. Check for damage on the door frame. If the hinges are damaged, you may want to replace them before installing a new door hinge. This will ensure that the door doesn’t swing too far when opened or closed.
  2. Measure the width of the door. Measure from one side of the door to the other. The measurement should be at least 1-3/4 inches wider than the existing hinge.
  3. Cut the wood to size. Use a circular saw to cut the wood to size. Make sure to use a straightedge guide to keep the blade perpendicular to the cutting surface.
  4. Attach the hinges. Screw the screws into the holes in the back plate of the hinge. Then attach the hinge to the door using the screws.
  5. Attach the lock. To install the lock, first remove the old keyhole cover. Next, screw the lock into place over the hole in the door. Finally, reattach the keyhole cover.
  6. Replace the weather stripping. Remove the weather stripping around the door frame. Replace it with new weather stripping.
  7. Replace the door handle. Attach the new door handle to the door using the included hardware.
  8. Install the trim. Install the trim pieces as desired.
  9. Test the door. Test the door by opening and closing it several times. Check to see if any parts of the door come loose. If they do, tighten them up again.
  10. Refinish the door. Sand down the edges of the door to smooth out any rough spots. Apply two coats of clear sealant to protect the finish.

How to Fix a Broken Windowpane

Fixing a broken windowpane isn’t difficult, but it does require a few things. First, you’ll need to know what type of glass pane you have. There are three types: doublet, triplet, and quadrate. Doublet and triplet panes are made of tempered glass, while quadrate panes are made of laminated glass. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, laminated glass tends to break easier than tempered glass. However, it lasts longer. In addition, laminated glass is much lighter than tempered glass.

Doublet Panes

A doublet pane consists of two layers of glass separated by a layer of plastic. The plastic layer helps prevent scratches and keeps the glass safe from breaking. Doublet panes are generally used in windows that open outward. These include patio doors, French doors, sliding doors, and picture frames.

Triplet Panes

Triplet panes consist of three layers of glass separated by two layers of plastic. Like doublet panes, triplet panes also help prevent scratches and keep the glass safe from breaking, but they tend to weigh more than doublet panes. Triplet panes are typically found in windows that open inward, such as garage doors, storm doors, and entry doors.
